Climate & when to go
Mauritius enjoys heat round the year. The summer months are from December to April, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November. Temperatures in the coastal region range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. Along the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are all wet at all times - it can rain here at any time of year, and even when it's not raining the area can be cloaked in low-lying cloud.

The best months to visit are May to early December. January and February are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers, due to the peak cyclones.

Mauritius provides home for the Pink Pigeon, the world's rarest pigeon some places in wet upland forests of the south west of the island. One can see the Echo Parakeet, the world's rarest parrot in the national park.
    • Le Val Nature Park
      Home for shrimps, eels and freshwater fish. It is also the place for anthurium green houses, watercress ponds, a deer park, monkeys and birds.
    • Vanilla Crocodile and Tortoise Park
      A heaven of banna trees, palm trees, lush tropical flora and fauna and giant bamboos. Giant tortoise and Nile crocodiles are also found here.
    • Casela Bird Park
      A home for around 140140 different breeds of birds from around the world, including the rare and beautiful Pink Pigeon.
    • Historic
      The historic sites of Mauritius include the remains of the European settlements and some other monuments of that period. Some of them are the Balaclava ruins and the Dutch ruins at Vieux Grand Port. The first fortifications and settlements remains can be seen here.
    • Religious and Others
      Triolet Shivala is the biggest temple in the Island and, was built in Triolet in 1819. The temple is dedicated to the Gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Murugan, Brahma and Ganesha. The village of this temple is the longest village on the island also. The other famous pilgrimage sites include the Pere Laval shrine and Lake Bassin.
There are so many spots which are known for their recreational value and attract a number of visitors. Ile Anx Cerfs on the east coast attracts a lot of tourists for its water sports, dining and shopping options. The Pamplemonsses Garden was created in the 18th century in the estate of the French Governor Mahe de Labourdonnais has got a rich collection of plants including the Victoria Amazonica lilies.

Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius is one of the major tourist attractions in Mauritius. It is a home to a large number of interesting tourist spots also. Government house and the Municipal Theater (belongs to 18th Century) are some of them. The Supreme Court and the Natural History Museum are the other tourist and important sites in the city. There are two cathedrals, and a mosque in the city that demand a visit must to the city. There is an interesting museum displaying a large number of masks collected from all over the world called Mask Museum inside the city.
